Clarice Cliff AUTUMN (blue) ashtray.
Circa 1932. Art Deco original.
Thickly hand-painted and bright in blue, yellow, green, black and orange with a central balloon-trees design to the well of the ashtray.
No serious damage or restoration, but does have some areas of paint loss to the blue tree (can be seen in the photos) and a couple of minor paint frits to the edge of the ashtray. These don’t detract from the appeal of this piece, and could easily be rectified by a competent restorer. These flaws are reflected in the price.
Stamped FANTASQUE Bizarre by Clarice Cliff to the base. Also has an impressed date mark, which I think is for September 1932 (indistinct).
Width of ashtray is 12.5cm.
