Clarice Cliff early CROCUS pattern ashtray.
Circa 1929. Art Deco original.
Very nicely hand-painted and bright in this ever-popular design. This is an early example of the pattern, with the huge flowers and the green hand-painted crocus name on the back.
No damage or restoration, in very good condition. There is a little bit of ‘pooling’ to the honeyglaze on the base, which is common on these early pieces. Not a fault, but only fair to mention.
Stamped Bizarre by Clarice Cliff to the base and has a hand-painted CROCUS pattern name in green paint. Also has an impressed date mark for 1929.
Width of ashtray is 12cm.
