MALING North East Coast Industries Exhibition square ashtray, Townsend & Co. Circa 1929.
Issued by Maling in 1929 to commemorate the event at Exhibition Park in Newcastle, in conjunction with retailers Townsend & Company. Their stand at the exhibition can be seen on page 44 of the MALING: The Trademark of Excellence book. Most of the pieces produced for the exhibition are in the typical blue & white style, but this ashtray has more of a lustre finish and shows the exhibition buildings in the central well.
In good condition on the top of the ashtray, but does have a couple of small sliver chips on the underside and some minor crazing (see photos). Priced accordingly.
Stamped Maling, Newcastle on Tyne (NE Coast Exhibition, 1929) to the base.
The ashtray is 10cm square.
