This is a rare MALING Newcastle Champion Ales round ashtray with yellow background and a blue star symbol in the well.
Vintage original, manufactured for The Newcastle Breweries Ltd., circa late 1920s.
As you can imagine, very few of these survive as they were given out to pubs who just threw them away if they got broken or damaged.
This is the same as one which is pictured on page 84 of the MALING: The Trademark of Excellence book.
Unfortunately, this one has also been broken and has some old restoration (some of the wording around the edge has been repainted), which would benefit from being re-worked. An old crack can also be seen underneath the ashtray. Priced accordingly.
Stamped Maling, Newcastle on Tyne to the base.
The colours on the top of the ashtray are still bright and vibrant. The ashtray is 12cm diameter.
